Learned Positivity - Postponed
Time: 7:00 pm
Learned Positivity Course by Rev. Giita Clark We are all familiar with negativity. It looms large and is easy to recognize. Negativity pervades much of our culture and contemporary lives. We find it in our self-talk and our judgments. It bleeds into our interactions with our children, and our colleagues, eroding our confidence and sense of goodwill. We now realize that this pervasive negativity breeds health-damaging emotions—like anger, contempt, and depression which seep into our bodies eroding our health. Positive thinking is good, but is it enough to change lifelong habits of fear and worry? Most of us would like to be more optimistic, more upbeat, and more positive. What can we do? How can we reverse these trends and intentionally inject more positivity into our lives? Dr. Barbara Frederickson has spent the last twenty years studying positive emotions in the laboratory and the field. Her recent book, Positivity offers valuable insight and practical tools to help us toward these goals. Giita Clark, licensed counselor, is offering a six session course based on the work of Dr. Frederickson and others working in the field of Positive Psychology. Giita will also include spiritual exercises, and tools that have been shown to radically transform our outlook, attitude and personality to a lasting positive state. We will be learning ways to increase and maintain personal positivity despite challenging external conditions and circumstances. If you want to join with others learning and applying these latest discoveries along with ancient spiritual principles, then this class is for you. Experiencing positive emotions in a 3-to-1 ratio to negative emotions allows us to achieve what we once could only imagine. And far from being frivolous, tapping into our own unique wellspring of positivity is a wise and healthy investment in the future. Come enhance your relationships, improve your health, relieve depression, and broaden your mind – that is the opportunity available. This is a 6 class series: five Thursday evenings May 13 - June 10th 7 – 9 pm and one Saturday session May 15th 1-5 pm. $10/ session suggested love offering. All classes will be held at Unity Church of Vermont. All are welcome. There is no prerequisite. The text Positivity will be used and can be purchased from local bookstores. A workbook will be provided. It is not necessary to attend all classes, however, to effectively learn and apply these tools, full participation is recommended.
